Everything I am is due to the love and support I have received from my family. On this page, I will write about my husband, daughter, brother, sisters, mother, father, in-laws ...cousins....Grandmother and aunts. Family is a very important aspect of academic and professional success!
A charcoal sketch of my family, 1971 Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara, Guyana South America. My aunt Mary was leaving for America the next day.
My grandmother, the matriarch of the family is sitting in the middle. From left to right in the back: Joseph, Mary. Bernadette, Margaret (my mother), Claudette holding Leon (my brother) who turned his head before the photo was taken. From left to right in front: La Vergne (me), Olga (grandmother/mother) and Lynn (my sister).
During the 2010 Christmas holiday our annual family gathering, I learned that my grandfather John Adolphus Williams on his dying bed told my grandmother, "Olga, make sure those girls get an education." Those girls were my mother Margaret and my aunt Mary (Auntie Baba), they were around three and one years old respectively.
When I started writing this biography of my grandmother, I thought she sold her goods/provisions at Stabroek Market. Stabroek Market is picture in the two images below:
